Wulung Damardoto and Aditya Birawa have a dream of making documentaries on the Indonesian arts and culture. Wulung, a devoted motorbiker, and Aditya, a photographer, are planning to explore three Indonesian main islands - Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi - in 184 days at 19,100 kilometers of distance, on motorbikes.
The team will be cutting across Java and Bali by the end of the exploration. In addition, a four-wheel vehicle will be joining the motorcade.
The expedition is called the Indonesian Exploride, aiming at motorbikers who are willing to jump in on an adventurous journey on motorbikes.
Indonesia, according to Wulung, is way behind Vietnam and Cambodia on motorbike tour packages. Vietnam, for example, has promoted motorbike tour packages ranging to between US$1,500 and US$3,000 in prices for seven days. "We're able to offer tourists of the similar packages at lower prices," he said.
The Indonesian Explorade will be broadcasted through a private TV station and is updated regularly through Twitter.
The journey was started yesterday, Feb 20, setting Lampung Province as its first destination.
In Sumatra, the team will be passing through Bangka-Belitung, Pekanbaru, Siantar, Samosir-Toba, Gunung Sibayak, Gunung Leuser National Park, Sabang Islands, Sorake Beach, and Bukittinggi.
