Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali Strawberry has introduced an educational tour program for kindergarten and elementary school students in the province.

"The program was introduced in July 2011 and now demand for it is quite high," Bali Strawberry marketing and operations manager Ketut Muja said here on Monday.

He said kindergarten and elementary school students in Denpasar, Badung and Gianyar districts proved to be highly interested in the educational tour program.

Muja said at least eight kindergarten and elementary schools to date regularly send their students to participate in the program.

"One school is even sending students from every grade periodically to the program that costs Rp50,000 per student and includes a plate of fried rice and strawberry juice," he said.

In addition, he said, the students also get a parcel containing strawberry seeds.

Muja said that the capacity of the Bali Strawberry program for one visit could accommodate 200 students, but each school sent around 80 to 150 students on average.

He said the program is open every day from 9 am to 6 in the evening.

"The objective of the Bali Strawberry program is to provide the participating students with education and information on how to plant and maintain strawberry plants until they bear fruit," he said.

Muja said strawberries were an an excellent source of minerals and vitamins that were important to boost the immune system.

Some of the vitamins that people can get from this fruit are vitamin C, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin B6 and vitamin K.

Aside from these, strawberry is also rich in manganese, dietary fiber as well as iodine.
