State railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) expects to launch the  Padang-Minangkabau International Airport commuter railway route in April  2012.
KAI West Sumatra Regional Division spokesman Syafrial  Romeo said that in the early stages the new railway could only serve the  route from Padang to the Duku station in Padangpariaman because the  firm was still waiting for land acquisition rights for railway  construction connecting the airport.
“KAI is still in the process  of land acquisition for the construction of a 4.2-kilometer railway  from Duku station to Minangkabau airport, which has charged the province  a budget of Rp 5 billion (US$550,357),” he said Friday, as quoted by  Antara news agency.
Syafrial said that construction of the new  railway would cost Rp 114.3 billion and the government had already  allocated Rp 56.5 billion during the first phase.
